Pet vaccinations every UAE owner should keep current
Dubai Municipality requires every dog and cat to be vaccinated against rabies and registered annually. Most reputable vets also require core vaccines before they'll perform routine procedures. Here's what to keep on schedule.
Dogs โ core vaccines
- DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvo) โ every 1โ3 years after puppy series.
- Rabies โ required annually by Dubai Municipality for registration renewal.
- Bordetella ("kennel cough") โ required by all reputable boarders.
- Leptospirosis โ optional but recommended if your dog swims in fresh water.
Cats โ core vaccines
- FVRCP (herpes, calici, panleukopenia) โ every 1โ3 years.
- Rabies โ required annually.
- FeLV โ recommended for outdoor or multi-cat households.
Common UAE-specific add-ons
Heartworm prevention isn't critical here (low mosquito-borne risk relative to humid climates), but tick and flea prevention is essential year-round โ the dry heat doesn't reduce parasite load the way owners expect.
