Local rules to check in Japan
OnlyPaw verifies your identity, service documents and knowledge test. Separately, paid pet care in Japan may involve local registrations or permits such as:
- 在留カード or 運転免許証 (Residence Card or Driver's Licence)
- My Number (マイナンバー) for tax reporting
- 動物取扱業登録 (Animal Handling Business Registration under 動物愛護法 — required for paid pet services in Japan)
- 動物取扱責任者 (Animal Handling Responsible Person) certification — 6 months relevant experience OR approved qualification
- Rabies vaccination certificate for personal pets (if boarding)
動物愛護管理法 (Animal Welfare Law) requires 動物取扱業 registration at your prefecture / city for any paid pet sitting, walking, boarding, or grooming. OnlyPaw's provider onboarding team helps you complete the Type 2 (保管) registration — expect 30-60 days processing.
These are general pointers, not legal advice — rules change, so confirm them with the relevant authorities before you start.
